2024 – 2025 Registration Is Open!

  • girls basketball registration

Age / Grade: NGBA runs programs for players in grades 2 – 9.

Residency: Participants should live in Newton or attend school in Newton. However, exceptions may be made to include girls from surrounding towns who do not have an equivalent program in their community.

Experience: No prior experience playing basketball is necessary. NGBA is a recreational program.

Gender Identity: NGBA strives to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive.  Programs are open to kids who identify as female (including cisgender girls, transgender girls, and nonbinary individuals).

Players may be asked for gender-identity documentation or evidence that shows the stated gender is sincerely held and part of the person’s core identity. Documentation includes, but is not limited to, government-issued documentation or documentation prepared by a health care provider, counselor, or other qualified professional not related to the player.

NGBA respects a young person’s wishes to be called by a chosen name and/or gender pronoun. This information can be provided on the registration form. However, due to limitations of the registration software, you are also asked to provide your child’s legal name and select “Female” during the registration process.

Deadlines and Fees:

The registration deadline is October 31.

Late Registration: Enrollment is limited due to availability of gym space.  We accept late registrations if we still have space.  However, if you register after the deadline, a $25 late fee will apply, and we cannot guarantee a spot on a team or accommodate a friend request. Players who are placed on a wait list will be notified on a first-come, first-served basis if space opens up on a team.

Registration Options: Online registration using a Visa or Mastercard greatly simplifies the registration process for our all-volunteer organization.  If you need to pay by check, please contact the Registrar for details.

Registration Fees: The registration fee covers the cost of gym rental, referees, team balls, tournaments, and supplies.

  • Grade 2: $275
  • Grades 3-9: $325

Scholarships: In case of family hardship, the registration fee will be waived upon request (strict confidence will be observed).

Refunds: Players who withdraw by November 15 will receive a partial refund; $25 of the fee is nonrefundable. No refunds are available for players withdrawing after November 15th.

If the NGBA season is cancelled due to social distancing measures, school closures or other unforeseen circumstances, registrants will receive a partial refund of applicable registration fees:

  • Up to 25% of the fee (~$75) may be withheld to cover any unrecoverable administrative costs associated with setting up the program.
  • If the program is cancelled after the season starts, refunds would also be prorated.
  • Donations are non-refundable.

Reminders

Team Assignments: Team assignments are finalized in late-November for Grades 3 – 9. Grade 2 does not have pre-assigned teams and is scrimmage based. For information about the team selection process, see Parents’ Page.

Schedules: In a typical year, our season kicks off the week after Thanksgiving and ends in early-March.  There are no practices or games during school vacation weeks or holidays.  Click here for additional details.

Uniforms: All players are required to wear sneakers and a reversible, numbered NGBA jersey for games.

  • 2nd grade players receive a free uniform jersey and ball at the first session.
  • 3rd – 9th grade players who do not have a jersey must purchase one from our local vendor.
  • Jerseys must be ordered online by November 6th so that they will arrive in time for our first session. However, late orders will be accepted.
  • See NGBA Uniform for complete details and a link our online store.

Jewelry Policy: For the girls’ safety, no jewelry (bracelets, rings, earrings, etc.) of any kind may be worn in practice or games. Girls may not wear anything in their hair that could result in an injury, such as beads or barrettes. Under no circumstances (including covering them with tape) may earrings be worn. There is absolutely no flexibility in the enforcement of this policy; don’t even bother trying.

Volunteers Wanted! This is an all-volunteer league.  You can sign up to volunteer when you register your daughter through our Sports Connect site.

  • Coach: Please consider volunteering to coach your daughter’s 3rd – 9th grade team.  Coach training for 2024 – 2025 is scheduled for 11/17 at Oak Hill. Details will be shared once registration is final.
  • Please email registrar@newtongirlsbball.com if you are interested in getting involved with NGBA beyond coaching.

Referees Wanted! Earn money and have fun! This is a great job for adults and high school students. We are especially looking for additional adults to referee the 7/8 grade games. No experience is necessary, though familiarity with the game is expected. The NGBA provides an initial 2-hour training session for all referees and assists referees as the season progresses. Referee Training for 2024 – 2025 is scheduled for 11/17 at Oak Hill. Contact our Referee Coordinator for additional information.
