Registration is Open

  • girls basketball registration

The 2017-2018 NGBA season has started.  We accept late registrations, if there is space.

Please read the following information regarding deadlines and team formation.

Please Email us if you have any questions about registration.

Eligibility: Any girl in 2nd through 8th grades, who lives in Newton, attends school in Newton, or has parents living in Newton, is eligible. No prior experience playing basketball is necessary. Enrollment is limited due to availability of gym space. Girls will be eligible for team assignments in the order that we receive their applications. Team assignments are finalized in late-November for Grades 3-8.  Grade 2 does not have pre-assigned teams and is scrimmage based.

Deadlines and Fees:

The registration deadline is November 14. If you register after November 14, we cannot guarantee a spot on a team or accommodate friend requests. Players who are placed on a wait list will be notified on a first come first serve basis if space opens up on a team.

Registration Options: We are an online registration league with payment by credit card. On-line registration greatly simplifies the registration process for our all-volunteer organization. This has proved to be quite successful; more than 95% of all players registered online last season. We hope to reach virtually 100% this year and have made it possible to register on-line even if you are requesting a scholarship or wish to pay by check.  Contact the Registrar for details. In case of family hardship, the fee will be waived upon written request (strict confidence will be observed).

Registration Fees: The registration fee covers the cost of gym rental, referees, team balls, tournaments, and supplies.

  • Grade 2: $145
  • Grades 3-8: $175

NGBA provides a $20 discount per-child for the second child in the same family and on each additional child (3rd or beyond). All children must be registered at the same time to receive the sibling discount.

Refunds: Players who withdraw by November 14, 2017 will receive a partial refund; $25 of the fee is nonrefundable. No refunds are available for cancellations after November 14th.

Blue Sombrero (our online registration system) will not automatically apply the sibling discount if you are registering a 2nd grader and an older child. If you plan to register a 2nd grader and an older sibling, please email registrar@newtongirlsbball.com BEFORE you register so that we can provide a $20 discount code. We cannot apply the discount after you have already registered and paid.

Team Assignments for Grades 3-8: For information about the team selection process, see Parents’ Page.

Reminders

Schedules: Our season kicks off on November 27 and ends March 10.  If there is a snow day, the season will be extended to March 17.  Games and the grade 2 sessions begin on December 2. There are no practices or games during school vacation weeks or holidays.  Click here for additional details.

Uniforms: Players should wear sneakers and a NGBA jersey.  All 2nd graders receive a uniform jersey and ball at the first session.  3rd – 8th grade players who do not have a jersey may purchase one from our local vendor:

All Sports Wear
1161 Walnut Street, Newton Highlands

Please call ahead as shop hours can be irregular.

Jewelry Policy: For the girls’ safety, no jewelry (bracelets, rings, earrings, etc.) of any kind may be worn in practice or games. Girls may not wear anything in their hair that could result in an injury, such as beads or barrettes. Under no circumstances (including covering them with tape) may earrings be worn. There is absolutely no flexibility in the enforcement of this policy; don’t even bother trying.

Coaches Wanted!: This is an all volunteer league.  Please consider volunteering to coach your daughter’s team.

You can sign up to volunteer when you register your daughter through our Blue Sombrero site. Please contact the lead grade coordinator for more information about coaching.

Referees Wanted!: Earn money and have fun! This is a great job for adults and high school students. No experience is necessary, though familiarity with the game is expected. The NGBA provides an initial 2-hour training session for all referees, and assists referees as the season progresses. Contact our Referee Coordinator, if you are interested.
